First Step: Express Your Interest

Members interested in being considered by the Nominating Committee are asked to complete the Expression of Interest form.

Upon receiving your expression of interest, the Nominating Committee will review your application and inform you by May 19 if you have been nominated as a candidate.

Members who are not nominated by the Nominating Committee, or who choose not to submit an expression of interest, retain the right to self-nominate by petition, as outlined below.

Why Serve?

The ISSM Board of Directors plays a crucial role in setting the society's strategic agenda, overseeing governance, and ensuring resource efficiency. By joining, you will collaborate with a dedicated team to steer ISSM towards achieving its mission, maintaining its standards, and embracing challenges and opportunities with strategic foresight.

Terms

• President-Elect: 2-year term, followed by a 2-year term as President, and concluding with 2 years as Immediate Past-President.

• Treasurer: 4-year term.

• Members-at-Large: 4-year term (non-renewable). 

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be full ISSM members in good standing and must meet the requirements outlined in the policy: “Qualifications of Elected Positions within the ISSM.”
The Nominating Committee considers geographic balance, gender, professional background, and the international nature of ISSM.

Nominating Process

• Submit your interest. Deadline: April 1, 2026.

• Nominating Committee Review: The Nominating Committee reviews all expressions of interest. By May 19, 2026, the Nominating Committee must propose candidates for the President-Elect and Treasurer positions and may propose candidates for the Members-at-Large positions.

• Member Self-Nominations: Members may self-nominate by submitting a petition signed by at least 20 full ISSM members. The self-nomination deadline is June 9, 2026, at 23:59 PDT.

Election Process

• Voting Opens: September 1, 2026

• Voting Closes: September 28, 2026, 60 minutes before the virtual ISSM Business Meeting.

Elections will be conducted via a secure online voting system, ensuring transparency and accessibility for all voting members. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes for each position will be elected. More information will be provided when the system opens.

Important dates

• March 1: Call for expression of Interest

• April 1: Deadline for expression of interest

• May 19: Announcement about nominated candidates and call for self- nominations

• May 19 – June 9: Self-nomination period.

• July 21: Candidate information is made available on the ISSM website and via email to all members

• August 2: Cut off dates for members to have active membership in order to vote

• September 1: Announcement that Voting is Now Open

• September 1 – September 28: Voting period, closes 60 minutes before the virtual ISSM Business Meeting

• September 28: Announcement of election results at the virtual ISSM Business Meeting.
