The mission of the committee is to recommend and/or review proposed changes to the Code of Standards or to advice in cases ethical matters arise within the Society.
The ISSM Ethics Committee is responsible for the following programs/ initiatives:
- Drafting an Ethical Vision Statement
- Revise the Conflict of Interest Policy
- Provide consultation to the Executive Committee on questions of scientific and personal conduct/misconduct of the ISSM members
Dr. Wittmann is Associate Professor at the University of Michigan’s Department of Urology.
She is an AASECT certified sex therapist and sex therapy supervisor, and Chair of the Mental Health Committee of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America.
Dr. Wittmann haspublished widely on sexual issues in prostate and bladder cancer. Her research focus is on using mixed methods to develop and test interventions that support couples’ sexual recovery
after cancer treatment. A most recently completed web- based intervention, supporting patients with prostate cancer and their partners in their recovery of sexual intimacy after treatment, is
available on the website of the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center.

Dr Ahola's main interests are preventive and lifestyle medicine. His approach to health, performance and wellbeing is holistic evidence- based medicine and in his view no holistic approach to medicine is complete if sexuality is also not considered.
Dr Ahola has been working in the field of sexology and sexual medicine since 2014, he received his FECSM in 2018 and graduated clinical sexologist in 2020 and is a popular lecturer on topics of sexuality in Finland. He has held multiple positions of trust in national medical and sexological organizations in Finland in addition to being an active member of both the ESSM and ISSM. He is currently pursuing a double specialty in both occupational medicine and sleep medicine, studying holistic psychology, and working on a PhD in sports medicine, focusing on sleep and hormonal disturbances in athletes under high stress loads.
Prof Joachim Osur is Associate Professor of sexual and reproductive health and also the, Dean School of Medical Sciences at the Amref International University. Among others, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery, a master’s degree in Public Health, and a PhD in reproductive health.
He is a Member of the American College of Sexologists and a Fellow of the Multidisciplinary Joint Committee of Sexual Medicine as designated by European Union of Medical Specialists. He runs a busy sexual medicine clinic in Nairobi, Kenya.
Hossein Sadeghi- Nejad
Dr. Hossein Sadeghi- Nejad is Professor of Surgery / Urology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Chief of Urology at the VA NJ Health Care System, and the Director of the Center for Male Reproductive Medicine at the Hackensack University Medical Center. He is the Immediate Past President of SMSNA, the Associate Editor of the AUA News, and a member of the American Board of Urology Examination Committee. His main areas of clinical research interest are erectile dysfunction and Peyronie's Disease.
