The Journal of Sexual Medicine (JSM), owned by the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) and published by OUP, is seeking applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief.

Responsibilities:

As the Editor-in-Chief, your responsibilities will include:

  • Shaping the content and composition of each journal issue, ensuring high-quality publications.
  • Publishing a wide range of topics covering both basic science and clinical material.
  • Staying updated on emerging trends in different fields of study.
  • Ensuring a thorough and fair review process for submitted articles.
  • Working with a team of editors to assign reviewers and make informed decisions.
  • Collaborating with the ISSM Publications Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Communicating effectively with the Managing Editor to improve publication quality, author experience and readership.
  • Exploring innovative ways to deliver research content online and stay at the forefront of online content delivery concepts.
  • Dedicating sufficient time and effort to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
  • Prioritizing the journal's growth, consistently striving to enhance its impact and reputation.
  • Embracing a forward-thinking mindset and anticipate future advancements in the field.
  • Fostering collaboration with other journal editors and encourage teamwork.

Requirements:

Applicants for the Editor-in-Chief role should meet the following criteria:

  • Postgraduate qualification/experience (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) in sexual medicine, urology, andrology, gynecology, psychiatry, or a related discipline with an appreciation for sexual function and dysfunction of all genders in order to maintain a balance of content.
  • Proven experience as a subject thought-leader with a significant number of publications.
  • Previous editorial experience, such as serving on editorial boards or in editorial leadership positions.
  • Familiarity with editorial processes, including peer review, and strong analytical and critical appraisal skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Active membership in the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM).

Term and Compensation:

The Editor-in-Chief will serve an initial 3-year term, with the potential for a 5-year extension based on evaluation by the ISSM Publication Committee and ISSM Executive Committee. The term is expected to commence on October 1, 2024. An honorarium commensurate with the responsibilities and importance of the role will be provided.
