Over 300 sexual medicine specialists from around the globe met in Madrid, Spain last month for the 4th International Consultation on Sexual Medicine (ICSM).
The meeting took place June 19 – 21 at the Meliá Castilla hotel.
The main goals of the consultation were “to help transform evolving new data into knowledge, knowledge into recommendations and recommendations into improved patient care,” according to the official meeting website.
These goals were accomplished with the help of 17 different committees:
• Current definitions, classification and epidemiology of sexual dysfunction in men and women
• Psychological and interpersonal dimensions of sexual function and dysfunction in both sexes, ethical and socio-cultural aspects
• Clinical evaluation and symptom scales used in assessment sexual dysfunction in men and women
• Experimental models for the study of women's and men's sexual function
• Sexual health and illness
• Future diagnostics and treatment targets for sexual dysfunctions, including stem cell based therapies
• Standards for clinical trials in women's and men's sexual dysfunction evaluating research designs and outcomes assessment
• Endocrinological control of men's sexual desire and arousal/erection
• Priapism, Peyronie's disease, penile trauma and reconstructive surgery
• Disorders of orgasm and ejaculation in men
• Implants, mechanical devices and vascular surgery for erectile dysfunction
• Pharmacotherapy for erectile dysfunction, testosterone deficiency and sexual rehabilitation after treatment for prostate cancer
• The physiology women's sexual function and pathophysiology of women's sexual dysfunction
• Endocrine aspects of women's sexual function and dysfunction
• Treatment of women's sexual desire, arousal and orgasmic disorders
• Women's sexual pain disorders
• Existing and future educational needs and platforms
In addition to committee presentations, the scientific program included a variety of abstracts and unmoderated posters on topics such as sexual pain, testosterone replacement therapy, vulvar and vaginal atrophy, erectile dysfunction, and sex addiction.
All accepted abstracts will be published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine.
