Sexual Health Q&A
Is there a link between psoriasis and male sexual dysfunction?
Recent research suggests that men with psoriasis may be more likely to have sexual problems, particularly erectile dysfunction (ED). Men over age 60 may have the most trouble.
Many health conditions associated with psoriasis are also associated with ED, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and coronary artery disease.
There may also be psychological links, as men with psoriasis may feel especially anxious about sex. For example, they might worry that their condition will turn off a potential partner.
Men who believe they’re having sexual problems because of psoriasis are encouraged to talk to a doctor and/or therapist. Many sexual issues can be treated.
Also, research indicates that men undergoing psoriasis treatment are less likely to experience sexual dysfunction.
