Sexual Health Q&A
How is prostate cancer diagnosed?
Typically, two tests are used.
Digital rectal examination. With this test, the doctor inserts a gloved finger through the rectum to examine the prostate gland.
PSA test. PSA stands for prostate-specific antigen, a protein produced by prostate gland cells. Higher levels of PSA in the blood suggest possible cancer.
If the doctor suspects prostate cancer, a biopsy is taken.
